The end of the 2008 season was finally here and we struggled all week on how to schedule the playoff and finals for our largest tournament ever!! Well Commissioner Moose came through again with a plan. This one allowed us to play our first ever Friday Night “Under The Lights” Games!! The DC Rec. Dept came through with the bathrooms and lights, and the games were on. It was so packed out there that it felt like a Saturday afternoon. There was an extra excitement in the air!! Well the teams came on-time and the 2008 Playoffs began…continued...

This is streetball, but there are still rules. Several of the players on Team Hollywood broke those rules this past weekend! Not all them, but a select few. They know who we are talking about, so there is no need to name names. The problem is that we will not allow disrespectful behavior to ruin our community event. This basketball tournament is given for the community to enjoy! It will only continue if everyone plays their part. Now in competition, emotions will sometimes get the best of you but there is no excuse for what certain players from this team did. continued...

OK, It’s finally the last week of the regular season and we should now have a good idea of what each team is made of, right? Well this week we had a few surprises. Some teams that we thought were sleepers, really put up a fight this week and just may be able to cause some upsets in the playoffs. In all eight years of having this tournament, we had our first ever Triple Overtime game. It almost went into a fourth, but we will get into that later. Now on to the recap….. continued...

WEEK 5 RECAP - GETTIN' IT IN!!

As the season winds down we are really seeing the haves and the have nots! Today was a mix bag of lopsided games. For some reason, there were a large number of blowouts but on the other hand, there were a few tense games that came down to the last second.... continued...

The games today proved to be some very fining games as teams started to separate themselves from the rest off the pack in each division. Each division still has some top teams that are very even, so there still isn’t any clear cut standout. Only one game today featured the two top teams in a particular division. And here it is…  continued...

The day was hot and humid, but that didn’t stop anyone. This week the tournament took started to take shape. Although new teams were still coming in, the ball kept bouncing. This week of July 19th proved to show us a glimpse of some strong playoff matchups.  continued...

After a Fourth of July rain delay, games resumed on July 12th. This day was a perfect day for some serious hoop play, and no one was disappointed. We knew of some late team registrations, but some other teams showed up that totally surprised us. It didn’t matter we let them in. The more competition we have the better the tournament is. continued...

WEEK 1 RECAP - LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

The first week of games are in the books!! The long awaited New York Ave. Classic has finally started. This year we started with a new court and some new teams. The 8th annual tournament consists of 32 Teams in 4 divisions. continued...

A PLACE
FOR EVERYBODY TO PLAY
(History of N.Y. Ave Park)

White & Colored Park, the park at 1st & New York Ave NW (Behind Dunbar H.S.) where MBL sponsors one of the City's Summer league games, was acknowledged as a historical landmark.

It turns out that long time ago DC like the rest of the country was segregated. But somebody had the foresight to know that things were not going to stay that way forever. continued...
