It’s finally here!! After so so much struggling, delays, and hard work, the 12th Annual New York Ave Classic Streetball Tournament will kick-off this Saturday, June 23rd!!

This event has become a staple in Washington DC. You get a really good look at the the great talented youth that the DMV has to offer. They are all on display here every Saturday for your enjoyment. There is no other place like it in the city!!

Each year this tournament seems to grow and grow!! This year we have a record number of teams and youth. Because of the demand and the amount of youth, we added two divisions this year. We have two 13u divisions (A & B) and we added a College Division. We are really excited about the College division. 12 years ago when we started this tournament, the majority of the youth in the neighborhood didn’t even have the word “College” on their minds. They were only living day to day. Now we are prod to say that many of the youths not only graduated High School (which is a great accomplishment in DC with a 50% dropout rate), they actually continued their education in college. Many of them have come through the Metroball AAU and mentoring program which helped 8 youths this year sign full scholarships to play basketball in college for the fall.

Metroball founders, Terrance Judge & Kevin Jones, started this totally FREE event in 2000 to promote a sense of community awareness, prevent the youth from violent behavior, and deter crime in the area.

As with last year, Metroball offers internships and community service hours for volunteers. We are also working with the DC Department of Employment Services to offer Youth Summer Jobs as part of our staff. The major part being the Sports Journalism Program where youth write stories on the games, conduct interviews, take pictures, and record video. Keep checking back for the youth articles that will be posted on our web site each week.

This tournament is provided free of charge and is funded by donations. All donations are used directly for the youth. If you would like to support us and the youth of DC by making a donation, you may do so through Pay Pal (metroballdc@yahoo.com), direct mail, or simply contacting us.

We encourage all to come out and witness a youth community in motion!!
